Souq Waqif (also known as the Iranian Souk, Old Souk or Souq Wafeq) is a souq the district of Mushayrib in Doha, captal of the state of Qatar. Souq Waqif is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Doha. Souq Waqif in the heart of Doha is situated between the four streets: Abdullah Bin Jasim Street, Grand Hamad Street, Jasim Bin Mohammed Street and Ali Bin Abdulla Street, it's quite a big area near the Corniche (Al Corniche Street). This market is noted for selling traditional garments, spices, handicrafts and souvenirs. This market has many jewellery, tailoring, embroidery, bishoot (men's cloaks) and abayat (women's cloaks), sword & dagger shops, cosy restaurants, Shisha lounges and coffee bars. It hosts several art galleries, events and local concerts. Although it dates back at least a hundred years, it was renovated in 2006 to conserve its traditional architectural style. The Souq Waqif is open from 10.00h to 12.00h and from 16.00h to 22.00h, but the many cafes and restaurants remain open all day. |
